Spiritual Tips for When a Family Member is in the Hospital

Quick tips that can help with the overwhelm and anxiety that comes with a family member or friend being in the hospital.

This is a topic close to my heart. I have wanted to make and share this video for about 2 years now.

Over the weekend, I received a text from a mom friend saying that they were at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and her son and just been diagnosed with Type One Diabetes.

My older son, Simon, was diagnosed just over 2 years ago. This mom was feeling scared and overwhelmed and wanted support.

I shared encouraging words and wished I would have sent her this video.

A lot of the reason I share the work and tips I do is because of my experience of being at the hospital for 4 days dealing with a new diagnosis.

I wish had these tips years before when other family members had been in the hospital.

These tips can also help in daily life and times of stress.

Tip #1 – Ask angels for help

  • I strongly encourage you to create a relationship with angels. Ask angels to surround your loved one and to help keep them safe. Ask them to fill them with white light, peace, and love.

Tips #2 – Ask God to take away your worries

  • Ask God/Universe/Universe/Divine to take away your worries. It is not your job to worry. Ask for your worries to be taken away. Imagine a magic wand drawing the worries out of your mind and off of your shoulders. There are unseen forces there to help you.

Tip #3 – Ego Eradicator Breath

  1. Sitting tall raise your arms up to a 60-degree angle. Straighten your elbows and relax your shoulders down.
  2. Curl your fingertips on to the pads of your palms at the base of the fingers. Stretch your thumbs out. (The arms being up is optional, especially if you are in a situation such as a hospital room!)
  3. Close your eyes and focus above the head.
  4. Practice Breath of Fire by breathing only through your nose with quick and even inhales and exhales. (example in video).
  5. Allow your navel point to pump in and out.
  6. Continue for 1 – 3 minutes.
  7. To end, inhale deeply and bring the thumb tips to touch overhead. Open the fingers, exhale and relax the arms down.

These 3 things were a huge help in the hospital and still help me to this day.

I hope they help you too!

How to Create a Summer Vision Board

What kind of summer do you want?

How do you want to feel at the end of summer?

These are the questions I want you to ask yourself before diving into this project.

A vision board is a collage showing things you would like to attract to your life or shows the vibe of the life you desire.

Your vision board will focus on something specific, summer. To make a vision board, cut pictures and phrases out of magazines, print images from websites, and/or include your own photos in the collage.

Next, glue the images and words onto a piece of poster board and place it somewhere you can see it on a regular basis or in a journal if you are traveling this summer. It can be tucked inside or you can make it the cover like I did.

For more tips, watch my video below!

Spend time in front of your board every day – then spend at least 5 minutes every day visualizing how you would feel if everything on the board was your current reality.

Then act like the person you would if this was your reality right now.

When making decisions this summer, use your board as your guide.

Will this help me achieve my goal/s?

I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Feel free to share your summer goals below in the comments.

Are you inspired you to create your own vision board? Show me on social media and tag @kerry_burki.

Manifesting Love in Paris

This week in 2003, I was in Paris with my older brother. When we were at the top of the Eiffel Tower I remember feeling like everyone was in love.

I was dating someone casually at the time and I remember thinking at that moment that when I got back to Chicago that I would break it off.

I stood up there and looked out over Paris and declared in my head that the next time I was in Paris, I would be in love. Madly in love.

When I got back from that trip, I ended things with that boyfriend and then some friends set me up with Matt Burki. We had known each other for about two years as friends but the timing was perfect because we became inseparable.

That following December, he asked if I wanted to go to Paris for New Years. Of course, I said YES!

We went to the top of the Eiffel Tower and kissed. I was madly in love! It was freezing so I remember we weren’t up there long but the whole trip was magical.

I was kind of blown away by how the whole thing happened. When I first I had that thought at the top of the Eiffel Tower I didn’t really have a time frame. So to be back in less than a year was amazing!

I had not known about the concept of manifesting at this time. When I first learned about shifting your energy and asking the universe for what you want, I immediately remembered this story.

I try to live my whole life this way. At times I have forgotten and life becomes tough. Then I remember to remove things keeping me at a lower vibration, figure out what I want or how I want to feel and co-create with the universe (God/Spirit/Angels/Guides) to make it happen.

Your thoughts and emotions are powerful! You are worthy of your desires! Now go put them out into the universe and open yourself up to some magic!

The first 3 photos below are from my April trip with my older brother and the last ones are my December trip with Matt.

Spread Love – A Heart Chakra Meditation

When I feel like the world needs a bit more love and I wish I could help, I try to end my days with a special meditation in which I envision that I am sending love and compassion from my heart to the whole world.

When there are special people on my mind, I pause and focus on them for a bit during this meditation.

Guided Heart Chakra Meditation

  • Close your eyes.
  • Take some deep breaths through your nose.
  • Then let your breath relax.
  • Picture your heart center.
  • Imagine love and compassion in and around your heart as light.
  • Pick a color for the light.
  • Let that light grow to encompass your whole body.
  • Let it grow to encompass your house or apartment building and all of the people in it.
  • Visualize it expanding to your neighborhood and city.
  • Then your state and country.
  • Then neighboring countries.
  • Then the whole world.
  • Visualize the whole world in your loving and compassionate light.
  • You are sending your positive and loving energy to every person, place, and creature.
  • Breathe.
  • Relax.
  • Open your eyes and continue on with your day or keep them closed and go to sleep.

Repeat often.

It is so healing.

There is scientific research confirming the heart is sending out light and electromagnetic wave fields. I love this excerpt from the book Playing in the Unified Field by Carla Hannaford, PhD:

“All the neurotransmitters found in the brain are also found in the heart. The heart actually appears to have its own sensitivity to the world, and exhibits that with intelligence, to the extent that the brain energetically revolves around the heart, and not the other way around.

The heart generates an electromagnetic energy field (EMF) that is 60 times greater than the field of the brain (as measured externally by a SQUID). It is the largest EMF within the body system, extending 8–16 feet around the body. People’s hearts are powerful transmitters, constantly sending out light and electromagnetic wave fields. The physical “antennae” able to pick up these waves is the entire body with its sensory apparatus and huge heart field.”

*** I talk about thinking of a color of the light of love that you send from your heart and I want to share some ideas:

  • go with the first color that pops into your mind
  • use green because it is the color associated with the heart (Anahata) chakra
  • go traditional with pink or red
  • use white light for healing

Eventually, you will do this without listening to a recording. You can lie in bed and just use your imagination. You can also use it to send love to a specific person too. I LOVE doing that!

You are a compassionate and loving person.

Your heart can heal the world!

Kerry Burki – an Introduction

I feel like it is time for a proper introduction. My name is Kerry Burki. I live in Scottsdale, AZ. I have my degree in Religious Studies & have been practicing yoga, studying the metaphysical arts & spirituality since the late 90’s.

I lived in Chicago for many years where I became a yoga teacher & worked for creative arts companies while getting married (Matt, my soulmate!), having kids (2 sweet boys 6 & 9!), & making a home.

Life was good.

It wasn’t until I moved back to Arizona 5 years ago that things changed. I couldn’t find full-time work as a yoga teacher & I had a close family member in & out of hospitals.

I stopped doing everything I learned. At the end of the day, I just wanted to watch tv & zone out.

I felt lost.

I started changing how I talked to myself. I realized I was saying a lot of mean & untrue things to myself all day long. I started working with affirmations & things went from there.

I started just doing a couple of yoga poses & focusing more on breathing, meditation, affirmations, visualizing, & following the phases of the moon.

By infusing small bits into my day my life started to flow in ways it never had before.

Life became more magical.

I became a Life Coach, launched a magazine, & started Full Moon Yoga classes. In 2017, I did something that made me happy every day for the 40 days before my 40th birthday. I learned to skateboard. I started teaching Full Moon paddleboard classes.

That led me to complete 2 programs as a Metaphysical Adept & a Divine Resonance Practitioner. During my training, I created The Moon & Arrow Lodge which is now all under my name, Kerry Burki.

I want this website to be a nurturing & teaching space. A space to teach the tools that have worked for me.

More importantly, I want you to learn to love yourself and to go after the things in life that make your heart swell like I did.

I’ll be sharing more & I look forward to getting to know you more too.

XOXO!
