I want to share something important with you today—especially as we move into the holiday season, which can be a really hard time for some people.

Earlier this fall, I taught a class called Building Resiliency at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. One of my students, Damien, created a Suicide Prevention Plan as his final project, inspired by his own lived experience. This plan saved his life twice.

His intention was simple and powerful: to create something that could be shared and used when things feel overwhelming.

A few weeks after the class ended, a friend told me that a family member was suicidal and they were driving to be with them. Having this simple plan to share made a meaningful difference in a moment that felt huge, scary, and out of their control.

When I later shared this story with the student who created the plan, he said,
“If it saves one life, it’s worth it.”

With his full permission—and his hope that it would be shared far and wide—I’m offering this plan to you.

Please save it. Print it. Share it with someone you love.
Use it in whatever way feels appropriate.

  • I made 2 versions: one with SUICIDE PREVENTION PLAN on top and the second one without.

The most important thing to remember is this: you don’t have to do hard things alone—and neither does anyone you care about.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 911 or your local emergency number.
