Tend To Your Vibes To-Do List

If you have read my book, Tend To Your Vibration, then you will have learned that setting time aside to tend to yourself regularly can give you a level of freedom that you have never felt before.

With my kids back in school, I have been playing around with a semi-daily to-do list that I made for myself and I thought you might enjoy using it too.

I say “semi-daily” because each personality is different. You might like this daily, weekly, monthly, or randomly. Whichever one suits you, I hope you enjoy this list and guide below!

How to Use Your To-Do List:

  • Date: Add the date here (this takes the pressure off of having to do this every day if that is not your jam)
  • Moon Phases: Check in on what phase the moon is and write it in this space. Bonus: Check the Living by the Light of the Moon Lesson in my Tend To Your Vibration to help you create rituals or actions to do during each phase) or use this blog post as a guide: How To Connect to the Moon Phases.
  • Check Boxes: Breathing, Exercise, Meditation, and Vision Board are 4 things I recommend doing as much as possible.
    • Breathing: You can find breathing exercises in Tend To Your Vibration and also on my blog here: https://www.kerryburki.com/category/breathing-techniques/
    • Exercise: Any type of movement that makes you feel good like dancing, yoga, or a walk can count as exercise.
    • Meditation: You can practice your fave form of meditation, or sit for a few minutes after breathing as your meditation, or listen to the ones I have added to the bonus section online of my book, listen to these on my blog: https://www.kerryburki.com/category/meditation/
    • Vision Board: Spend a few moments in front of your vision board on a regular basis feeling like all of it has come true. Use the lessons in the Working with Your Thoughts section of my book, Tend To Your Vibration to help you manifest it into life. Don’t have a vision board? Here are some tips: https://www.kerryburki.com/?s=vision+board
  • Water: Did you know that you are supposed to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day? I added the average of 8 glasses here even though I personally have to drink more. (Let me know if you want a version of this with more glasses). You can cross the glasses off or color them in with a blue colored pencil. Such a fun way to keep track of water consumption. Drinking water will help you in every area of your life. I promise!
  • Crystal: Pick a crystal to work with either daily or for a bit of time. You can write down the crystal in this space. I like to either pick one I am drawn to or pick one based on the energy associated with it. You can find out more in my book and also in this post: Pick and Crystal – Mini Reading.
  • Intuitive Hints and Synchronicities: If you start doing this work on a regular basis, then you will start to see evidence of your dreams coming true and receiving guidance in your daily life. It is so important to record these moments as proof that your efforts are working and to keep your vibration at a level that keeps manifesting more of what you want. I also carry a little notebook around to write these down on the fly. This is inspired by most of my book but especially the Have Fun & Draw In lesson.
  • Card Pull: I love pulling a card a day after asking “What do I need to know right now?” You can do this at the beginning of the day and reflect back later or do it at the end of the day and notice what comes up. You can also use the printable oracle cards from the online bonus section of my book. They will give you guidance on which lessons might have to most impact on your life right now.
  • I am grateful for: Lastly, it feels so good to express what you are grateful for on a regular basis. Bonus: What to really feel good? After you write what you are grateful for add “because” and then finish the sentence. This amps up the feeling of gratitude which makes your life that much more enjoyable.

Whew! I promise it won’t take you as long to fill this out as it did to read all of this. Lol! I hope you enjoy bringing this activity into your life.

Enjoy!

How To Cleanse Your Home With Smoke

Clear Your Space with Smoke and Sound Lesson from my Free Spirit Guidebook

Last year I had a friend reach out asking about how to cleanse the new house her family was moving into before they brought their stuff in there.

Based on the Clear Your Space with Smoke and Sound Lesson in my Free Spirit Guidebook, I created a simple ritual for her.

After being in our homes for so long over the last year I thought you might like to take advantage of the warmer weather and cleanse your space too.

How To Cleanse Your Home With Smoke

  • Make or purchase an herb bundle, like mugwort or juniper. (I do mention sage in my book but it has been brought to my attention that white sage is being overused so please do some research before buying and using – more on this below)
  • Clearing and cleansing your space with smoke is an empowering way to rid your space of negative or stagnant energy. Think of it as energy that is not serving you or is no longer serving you.
  • In your case, this would be old energy from the previous owners.
  • While you are clearing, you can imagine that the negative or stagnant energy is being transmuted into neutral energy or clear space.
  • Create an intention for this work.
    • “Help me clear this space from old, stagnant energy.”
    • “With my intention and this smoke, I clear this space of any negative energy.”
    • “As I move around this house with this smoke, I clear out old energy.”
    • Or use all 3!
  • Always be very careful with lit embers and ashes. You might like to use an incense holder, seashell, or similar object to catch ashes. Be mindful to put out your smoke after you are done clearing or allow it to burn out with supervision.
  • Allow the smoke to go into areas under chairs, under your bed, in corners, nooks and crannies, and so on.
  • Feel free to play music, especially if you are new to this. Just make it fun.
  • After, protect and bless the space by imagining white light filling the space or a bubble or angels around the space or spritzing with rosewater or placing crystals around. You might like to have a special room spray or candle to use for a while.
  • This would be a beautiful time to set an intention for your home or prayer. Something like:
    • “May this house be filled with love and light. A beautiful, safe place for our family to grow and flourish.”
    • “May God, Angels, Universe, protect this house and fill it with love. We look forward to filling it with joy and comfort every day.”
    • “This house is now ready to be filled with the light and love of our family. We look forward to creating many happy memories here.”
    • Again, a combo of all 3 works too.
  • Have fun with this! Doing rituals like this really helps you feel the marking of a transition in your life when you are moving or shifting into a new chapter. The smoke from the herb bundle is a part of the ritual but your energy and intention are what will really shift the energy.
  • Don’t like smoke? You can do this whole thing with sounds like chimes or bells.

Feel free to reach out with any questions!

If you want some added support, consider working with me one-on-one or dive into my Free Spirit Guidebook to help you create fun, positive shifts on a regular basis!

Resources about White Sage:

I had a local Indigenous artist reach out to me about mentioning sage in my book. She told me about how the act of smudging with white sage is a sacred act for many Indigenous communities. We ended up having a very informative conversation over Instagram about cultural appropriation and how I can be a better ally. I want to share some of the resources she shared with me along with some others I found doing my own research.

Cleansing Without Sage

The Ethics of Burning Sage, Explained

The inspiration for the Clearing Your Space with Smoke and Sound Lesson in my book came from the fact that smoke cleansing has been a practice in many cultures for centuries including my Celtic heritage. When I have cleared myself and my spaces with smoke it has been so healing for me and I want to share it with others.

I try to be very intentional and respectful with my work and am always open to learning more and moving forward in the right direction. I will be making some edits in the second edition of my Free Spirit Guidebook and am grateful for the way I was called in about how I might be harming Indigenous communities with my work. I encourage you to do your own research and, if you do love sage, please consider garden sage or buying from ethically sourced businesses. If you would like to make your own, check out this article: Herbal Allies for Energy Clearing.

Experts Reveal How to Make Your Home a More Zen Space in 2021: Guest Post From Redfin

After a whirlwind of a year in 2020, many of us are looking for a positive and fresh start to the year – and a great way to do this is by making your home a place of zen.

It’s likely that we’ll be spending plenty of time at home still, whether it’s because of remote working, virtual schooling, or you’ve just gained a new-found love for your home.

So, it’s more important than ever to make your home a place of zen. To help you transform your space into a place of peace and serenity, we asked experts across the country for their best advice. All the way from San Diego, CA to Washington, DC, here’s how they say you can easily make your home a more zen space.

Have a sacred space in your home that’s only used for relaxation or meditation. This can be a simple corner that you add an amethyst crystal, scented candle, and special accent pillow. Or even a small area in your back patio that has a rock garden or fountain that your intention is to unwind and keep calm, soothing energy in. Creating your own sacred space, especially on the heels of 2020, will give you a secure spot to find your zen so you can anchor your balance in 2021. – Cathleen Miller, Intuitive Lifestyle Success

Be intentional with what you hang on your walls. Your home is a space that should feel like a sanctuary, so when choosing artwork, pictures, and other decor, avoid choosing random items. You want to ensure the items elicit a positive energy or have meaning to you. This will keep the energy in your home a high vibe and a happy place to be. – Nia Carrillo, Eclectic Wellness SD

Energetically clear your space. You can hire a Reiki (energy healing) practitioner or do it yourself. Briefly light a bit of sage or palo santo and move from room to room, dispersing smoke from the ember while repeating an intention for your home. It could be something like, “I invite only the highest vibrational energies into this space: love, light, and wisdom.” – Heather McCutcheon

Let go of stuff. When your home is cluttered and full of things that don’t bring joy or just suffocate the space, it translates to how you feel there – leaving you feeling blocked and suffocated and your mind overwhelmed. Go through each room and closet creating a bag to sell, donate, and throw away. Start with the room you interact in the most. – Marni April, WholeU Wellness & Intuitive Energy Medicine

Place granite at the four corners of your bed or your bedroom to promote peaceful sleeping. While most crystals bring in energies of the sun, granite brings in earth energy that can make you feel more grounded and promote feelings of safety. Revered by groups such as the Masons, granite is often an overlooked stone by those who work with rocks and crystals. You can easily buy small granite boulders from your local landscaping store. – Lauren Torres, EarthBLISS

Surround yourself with items that bring you joy. Crystals, for example, are believed to have unique properties. If you are looking for stones that will encourage calm and instill a sense of peace in your home, I suggest Fluorite. Fluorite is said to be one of the ultimate soothing stones by neutralizing negative energy and inspiring mellow vibes and clarity. – Marie Ortega, Feathered Outlaw

Place a crystal in each room to promote positivity, peace, and zen in your space. Start with the common areas by placing black obsidian and selenite in the rooms to keep the energy clear, followed by placing a crystal in each bedroom. Adults and teens can benefit from a strong positive stone, such as carnelian, citrine, and sunstone. Younger children may prefer a soothing blue stone such as aquamarine, blue lace agate, and celestite. – Claire Harrison, Jonquil Reiki

A tranquil and zen home starts from you. Simple daily practices designed to consistently support a grounded and uplifting vibration within yourself will help ensure your home radiates love and light. Clearing up your energetic vibration creates the home of your dreams. – Healing Channels

Let sound clear stagnant energy. A simple way to shift the energy in your home is to clear your space with sound. Move around your home with chimes, bells, a singing bowl, clapping, a hand drum, or even music from your phone and imagine the sound reverberating around and into all of the nooks and crannies of your space shaking up and clearing negative or stagnant energy. After, protect and bless the space by imagining white light filling the space or a bubble or angels around the space or spritzing with rosewater or placing crystals around. – Kerry Burki, Author of the Free Spirit Guidebook

Little luxuries create a more zen space. My one tip to adding more peace and tranquility to your home is adding little luxuries, such a facial steamer, oil diffuser, or silk pajamas. It’s the little things that make a big difference and now you’ll be feeling more luxurious and zen, just in time for bed. – Arielle Simone

Let movie quotes lighten the space. In my home, this is one way we keep everyone laughing or deeply connected because the right movie quote paints the scene, challenge, or opportunity quickly. With two dogs, two cats, two teenagers, and two grown-ups you may hear your favorite line from The Princess Bride, Chadman Boerick’s character in Black Panther, or the stars in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga to validate and feel what was shared. – Sarah Larsen

Create a healing environment to promote a more zen space. Your home is a sacred place, and the beginning of the year is the perfect time to create your own healing environment. Surround yourself with beauty and art. Feeling the energy of the love filling your home. – Mary Rockwood Lane, Healing with Hearts

Don’t forget to make your workspace zen. Since so many of us are now working from home, we suggest surrounding your workspace with crystals that are calming, loving, and protective.  Stones like rose quartz, amethyst, and clear quartz are amazing to promote overall wellness. You can easily keep those stones right by your desk at home in our gem-water bottle or reusable crystal straws. – Anjanette & Dominic Sinesio, Crystals for Humanity | Gem-Water

Ancestor Altar for Halloween Season

There is a full moon Saturday night on Halloween and here is a special way to celebrate it on a personal level.

Consider creating an ancestor altar. This is the perfect time of year to connect with those who have gone before you and the altar is something you can keep up year-round if that feels right to you.

This can be something that honors and recognizes loved ones or relatives that you have never met or both. Find a space that will be relatively undisturbed. You can add photos, favorite or seasonal flowers, bits of food, or drink that was a loved one’s favorite or is special to your family history.

If you do not have a direct connection to your family line then consider this more energetic. Put things on the altar that you love. Realize that if it is something that you love that it probably connects you to many souls that came before you.

If you do put out food remember to remove it before it gets stale or moldy. Preferably compost.

Some of you might want to connect with more ancient ways so you might like to research stones, flowers, plants, and symbols that you can adorn your altar with.

Don’t forget candles. This is the perfect way for you to spend time and connect with the energy of your altar. You can have a plain candle or choose certain scents or colors that a family member loved.

You can’t go wrong here!

If you are looking for guidance possibly ask your loved ones or ancestors to help you or for a sign.

I’ll be sharing a beer with Nana Madeline on Saturday. You can also do this in celebration of All Souls Day or Day of the Dead.

Enjoy the Full Moon energy and share with a friend who might like this ritual too. XO!

Rituals for your Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Broom

Do you love picking up the cinnamon brooms from Trader Joe’s every fall? I sure do! If you have ever wanted more ways to use those scented beauties, I am here to share a few simple rituals for your Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Broom.

These brooms come in two sizes. A mini whisk in a handheld size and a larger one that is about 3 feet tall: both have some twine so that they can be hung.

I keep mine every year and add them to the decor in my house. I always have one behind my front door to sweep out any bad energy throughout the year and I hang my mini one on my apron hook.

If you love bringing rituals and magic into your daily life be sure to check out my book, Tend To Your Vibration, or book a session with me!

Magical Properties of Cinnamon:

First, let’s talk about the magical properties of cinnamon. Did you know that cinnamon is associated with prosperity, success, protection, healing, and spirituality?

Cinnamon helps move energy in a positive way. That bold scent you smell when you open your broom is filled with warmth and joy.

The scent of cinnamon combined with your intentions can help you create a home and life you love.

Just getting the broom and opening it up will bring the properties of cinnamon into your home.

Clearing and Blessing:

When you first get your broom, take it out of the wrapping and take a moment to really enjoy the smell of cinnamon.

Cinnamon is associated with the Sun and the element of fire. Place it in the sunlight for up to 10 minutes. This will help clear old energy and make it ready for you to use.

You can even just hold it in the sun while facing south and say:

“Sunlight, clear away any old energy on this broom.”

Now the broom is ready to be blessed and filled with your intentions.

As you hold your broom, imagine sparkly white light coming down from the cosmos entering the crown of your head, flowing down to your heart, down both arms, and into the broom.

While you are doing this, take time to imagine yourself in your home feeling prosperous, successful, healed, happy, protected, and connected to the Divine. Then say:

“I call on the Divine to bless this broom with my positive intentions. This broom is blessed and it will help bring prosperity, healing, protection, and Divine blessings to my home.

You are now ready to go!

Kitchen Prep:

Before cooking, energetically sweep your counters and stovetop with your mini whisk. Allow the scent of cinnamon to fill the space and bring about feelings of abundance and healing through the food you are about to cook.

Bonus: Bless and give thanks for your food while cooking and before eating.

Home Clearing & Protection:

Did you know that people used to place a broom above their front door for home protection? If you don’t feel like doing that, try this ritual.

You will first set the intention to clear your home of stuck, challenging, and stagnant energy. Then you will energetically sweep (meaning the bristles don’t touch the floor) your home towards the front door. Then open the door and sweep all that energy out.

Then imagine your house being filled with and surrounded by golden white light and the smell of cinnamon.

Tap into your positive emotions and say:

My home is filled with positive intentions, prosperity, healing, and Divine blessings. My home is surrounded by golden white light in which only love remains and through which only love may enter.”

Bonus: Imagine angels surrounding and guarding your home.

Clear Space:

You can also use either size broom to clear your space before doing rituals, yoga, praying, journaling, meditating, reading tarot, or oracle cards.

It is also nice to give an energetic sweep after having people or workers in your home.

Home Decor:

During October, your broom can be a part of your Halloween decorations. The scent of cinnamon fades over time and the brooms can become part of your home decor for the rest of the year.

You can hang it on the wall and embellish it with dried flowers, beads, colorful ribbons, charms, bells, feathers, crystals, etc. You can change these add-ons seasonally too. So fun!

Fun Facts:

Did you know that Deverra is the Goddess of Purifying and is associated with the broom? In Ancient Roman times, an area would be swept before a ritual or celebration to purify and cleanse the area. Brooms were thought to clear out the darkness and allow in the light.

She is considered the protector of midwives and women in labor. Her name comes from the Latin word Deverro which means to sweep.

Did you know that St. Martin de Porres of Lima, Peru is the Saint of the Broom for his devotion to his work no matter how menial it was?

He is also the patron saint of persons of mixed race and of those who suffer from discrimination.

Fascinating!

Final note:

Intention combined with nature and a connection to the divine can make your life flow. Enjoy using these rituals to help you tap into the energetic properties of cinnamon, sweep away old, challenging energy, and bring prosperity and healing into your life!
